ARTIST STATEMENT
I explore both the seen and the unseen through my paintings, aiming to materialise immateriality and reflect the fullness of human existence. My interest lies in observing the universal complexity of life, including its transcendental aspects. The application of various layers and textures of partially hand-made paint represent mixed dimensions where physical matter merges with the ethereal and subconscious. In my often autobiographical work, I compare and examine my journey and growth in relation to the surrounding reality of the world, navigating the inevitable flow of life with its ups and downs.
My focus on metaphysical ideas stems from personal mystical experiences, which, combined with my observations of interpersonal relationships and humanity’s connection to nature, have significantly shaped my overall perception of existence. The imagery in my work frequently relies on symbolism and metaphor, intertwining themes of daydreaming, contemplation, and spirituality with elements of escapism, nostalgia and intoxication - all grounded in the ordinary and everyday.
My paintings are heavily inspired by photography, drawn from an archive of images sourced from my own experiences or random visuals I encounter online. The compositions are inspired by the collage technique, where I intuitively experiment with shapes, lines, and colours. My creative process is one of collaboration, where I listen, respond, and allow the artworks to dictate their own destiny. The driving force behind my work is the desire to reveal the inner workings of the contemporary self, which is inherently full of contrasts and paradoxes.
